Former University of Miami linebacker Jonathan Vilma, a Coral Gables High graduate and member of the UM Sports Hall of Fame who played at UM from 2000 to 2003, is becoming more popular than ever among Hurricanes fans.

On Monday, Miami athletic director Blake James announced that Vilma was one of two former players on the football head coach “search advisory committee’’ that will “provide James with input on the process and candidates.’’ The other is former Heisman Trophy winner Vinny Testaverde.

“Thanks for the support everyone, can promise ALOT of hours are being put in to get this right. #Canes,” Vilma posted Tuesday on Twitter, in response to dozens of fan responses.

Some of the many tweets to Vilma by UM fans: “We believe in you Villllllmmmmaaaaa,’’ and “As you know by now many of us want Butch Davis back, is the rumor true about him being a last option?’’ and “Cristobal!!”

▪ Interim head coach Larry Scott said Tuesday that offensive tackle Sunny Odogwu, who wore a yellow (limited) jersey in practice, will be “ready to go” Saturday against Georgia Tech. “It’s just getting him through some soreness,” Scott said. “It was to protect him.”
