UM’s Jermaine Grace, Corn Elder honored
University of Miami football players Jermaine Grace and Corn Elder each earned Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week honors Monday.
Grace, from Miami Gardens, was named linebacker of the week. On Saturday in Miami’s 30-27 win at Duke, Grace had a career-high 17 tackles — 12 of them after the first half. The junior out of Miramar High also tallied one tackle for loss and forced a fumble. His nine solo tackles were a single-game career high.
Elder, a junior from Nashville, scored the winning touchdown at Duke. Elder is a cornerback who won as the specialist of the week for his dazzling effort in the now-famous, eight-lateral kickoff return. He was on the receiving end of the kickoff, and also crossed the goal line with the football.
▪ Miami and Adidas announced Monday that the Canes (5-3, 2-2 ACC) will wear a special all-black uniform at 3 p.m. Saturday at home against Virginia (3-5, 2-2) to honor the U.S. military on Military Appreciation Day.
