Miami Hurricanes junior cornerback Artie Burns was named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Back of the Week on Monday after tallying a career-high two interceptions in one game Saturday against Virginia Tech.

Burns is on a tear this season, leading the Hurricanes with five interceptions in six games, and ranking third nationally with his total. His five interceptions are the most by a UM player since Sean Taylor had 10 in 2003.

Burns became the first Hurricane with multiple interceptions in a game since cornerback Tracy Howard did it against North Carolina in 2013.

“I’m just trusting my technique,” Burns said after UM’s 30-20 victory against the Hokies. “I’ve been working on my craft over the offseason.”

▪ The ACC announced Monday that UM’s game Oct. 31 at Duke in Durham, North Carolina, will kick off at 7 p.m. and will be televised by ESPN2 or ESPNU. Duke (5-1, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) is now ranked 23rd.
