Walford up for Mackey Award

Hurricanes senior Clive Walford was selected Monday as one of eight semifinalists for the John Mackey Award, given to the nation’s most outstanding tight end.

Walford, the most prolific tight end in Canes history, leads all UM receivers with 33 catches, ranks second with 522 receiving yards and is tied for the team lead with seven touchdown catches.

"I don't know how there’s a better one out there,” coach Al Golden said. “He's gotten better in every aspect... we ask him to do everything a tight end needs to do.”
