The Hurricanes unveiled Tuesday a list of 16 players they hope to redshirt or get medical waivers for this season. Some might not reach that status. Joe Brown, a 6-4, 318-pound freshman from Paramount, California, for example, might be forced into action because of recent injuries to the offensive line.

Kicker Matt Goudis, a junior who sustained a back injury in the offseason, would be unable to redshirt if the NCAA denies UM’s petition for a medical waiver.

True freshman right tackle Kc McDermott sustained a season-ending injury Sept. 27 against Duke.

Defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad, currently suspended from UM, is also included among the 16 names.

The others: defensive tackle Earl Moore, safety Ryan Mayes, defensive lineman Jelani Hamilton, receiver Rashawn Scott, linebacker Terry McCray, defensive end Mike Smith, receiver Darrell Langham, receiver David Njoku, offensive lineman Tyler Grimsley, defensive end Demetrius Jackson, quarterback Malik Rosier and safety Rayshawn Jenkins.

According to UM, if all 16 receive redshirt status, that would be the most coach Al Golden has redshirted since he arrived at UM in 2011.
