It was a presidential morning Wednesday at Greentree Practice Field. New University of Miami president Julio Frenk, who arrived on campus less than a week ago, met with the Hurricanes football team for about six minutes before practice.

First he spoke to the coaches and players. Then he put on a Canes jersey (No. 1) and posed for photos with the seniors. He was given an autographed football from the team. Frenk did not speak to reporters, but linebacker Jermaine Grace said Frenk told the team he planned to be at every home game this season.

Frenk’s advice for the upcoming season: “Just to continue working, keep fighting and win the Coastal [Division],” Grace said.

Said coach Al Golden: “We were honored to have him out here. He had some nice words for the team. I know he’s excited. I’m sure it’s a whirlwind for him right now. I’m glad that we were included in that whirlwind in terms of it being important for him to come over here. I know the kids appreciate it.”

▪ Sophomore linebacker Juwon Young, who sprained his left foot in last week’s scrimmage, isn’t expected back until the week of the season opener, Golden said.

▪ Receiver Braxton Berrios (hamstring) will likely be held out of Saturday’s scrimmage, Golden said. Berrios and receiver Malcolm Lewis were both in red noncontact jerseys on Wednesday.
