Top edge player flips from LSU to UM. Canes’ top 3 class gets even better
The Miami Hurricanes’ recruiting class, already considered one of the top three in the country, got even better on Wednesday evening when five-star edge player Jaiden Bryant flipped his commitment from LSU to the Hurricanes.
Bryant, who attends Columbia (S.C.) Irmo High, was impressed by UM during a visit to campus last weekend. Mario Cristobal and defensive line coach Jason Taylor were heavily involved in his recruiting.
“I love the relationship that I’m building with Miami,” he told InsideTheU after his visit. “They make me feel loved, wanted, like I belong here... I learned that they can turn me into a better man, a great man on and off the field.”
At 6-3 and 245 pounds, Bryant is rated the No. 2 edge player in the country and No. 19 player overall in 247’s rankings.
He finished last season with 79 tackles (23 for loss, 11 sacks, six forced fumbles and an interception. As a sophomore, he had 92 tackles (26 for loss), 18.5 sacks and four forced fumbles. He also was a top performer in the shot put as a sophomore.
247 recruiting director Andrew Ivins said Bryant “should be viewed as a potential impact player for a College Football Playoff hopeful that can force his way into the backfield and make stops.”
Ivins describes him as a “thick edge defender that creates negative plays with his twitch, power and a relentless motor. [He] followed up an impressive junior campaign with a strong showing during practices for the annual Under Armour All-America Game where he consistently got the best of blue-chip tackles.”
The Canes now have nonbinding commitments from four of the nation’s top 20 Class of 2027 prospects in the 247 rankings: cornerback Donte Wright (10th), quarterback Israel Abrams (14th), receiver Nick Lennear (16th) and Bryant (19th).
Miami has 16 Class of 2027 commitments overall and will host several prospects this weekend.
