Hurricanes-Notre Dame gets prime time start on NBC in November
The Miami Hurricanes’ marquee November game at Notre Dame will be played under the lights.
NBC announced on Thursday that it has set a 7:30 p.m. kickoff time for UM’s Nov. 7 game at the Fighting Irish.
Like many UM-Notre Dame games, this one will be highly anticipated after the Canes’ 27-24 season-opening win against visiting Notre Dame last season, a game that triggered a CFP rankings controversy that simmered for months.
Notre Dame was ranked ahead of UM for five weeks until the teams were flipped in the final rankings, sending the Canes to the playoffs and leaving the Irish out of the playoff field. Notre Dame reacted angrily and said it would not play in any bowl game at all last season.
UM also is scheduled to play at Notre Dame in 2028, 2031 and 2037. Notre Dame is scheduled to play at Miami in 2032 and 2034. But like everything in college football, those dates are fluid.
The Canes will open their season on Friday, Sept. 4 at Stanford; ESPN hasn’t set a kickoff time.
Times for UM’s first three games are expected to be announced later this month. UM’s full schedule:
Friday, Sept. 4: at Stanford
Thursday, Sept. 10: vs. Florida A&M
Friday, Sept. 18: at Wake Forest
Saturday, Sept. 26: vs. Central Michigan
Saturday, Oct. 3: at Clemson
Oct. 10: Bye week
Saturday, Oct. 17: vs. Florida State
Saturday, Oct. 24: vs. Pittsburgh
Saturday, Oct. 31: at North Carolina
Saturday, Nov. 7: at Notre Dame
Saturday, Nov. 14: vs. Duke
Friday, Nov. 20: vs. Virginia Tech
Saturday, Nov. 28: vs. Boston College
NBC received authorization to schedule four of its Notre Dame games in prime time this season, an unusually high number.
Besides the game against UM, there also will be 7:30 p.m. kickoffs for games against Wisconsin on Sept. 6 (at Lambeau Field) and home games against Michigan State on Sept. 19, and SMU on Nov. 21.
Notre Dame’s games against Rice (Sept. 12), Stanford (Oct. 10) and Boston College (Nov. 14) will be 3:30 p.m. starts. All seven of these games will be carried by both NBC and Peacock.
