Miami OL Francis Mauigoa on his best positional fit, addresses Bain’s arm length

Francis Mauigoa doesn’t care what position he plays.

The Miami Hurricanes offensive lineman just wants to get on the field.

“I don’t really care,” Mauigoa replied when asked about his best positional fit. “There are five positions. I’ll make sure I take one of them.”

Mauigoa met with the media at the NFL Combine Saturday morning and was immediately peppered about his positional fit. The 20-year-old started at right tackle for the Canes since he arrived on campus as a freshman in 2023, yet some analysts believe that he’s built more so like a guard.

“It would be cool if I stayed at tackle but if guard is the way I get into the game then I will give it my all,” Mauigoa said.

One of Mauigoa’s teammates in edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr. also has recently faced criticism due to his arm length. The two have faced off numerous times over the years as they both were part of the Canes’ 2023 recruiting class. In fact, it could be argued that nobody knows more about Bain than his offensive counterpart.

“If you look at tape, it doesn’t matter,” Mauigoa said in reference to Bain. “Rueben Bain, he got that mentality, that heart to do whatever it takes.”
