Miami, Ohio State each down a key player for Cotton Bowl. Who’s in, who’s out?

The final availability report for the College Football Playoff quarterfinal game between the No. 10 Miami Hurricanes (11-2) and Ohio State Buckeyes (12-1) is out.

And not much has changed over the past three days from the initial report that was released Sunday night and the one offered Wednesday about 90 minutes before kickoff at AT&T Stadium.

UM still has four players listed as out: Cornerback Damari Brown, linebacker Malik Bryant, wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw and defensive lineman Donta Simpson

Ohio State, meanwhile, has six players listed as out: Safety Malik Hartford, wide receiver Quincy Porter, defensive linemen Logan George and Ahmed Tounkara, offensive lineman Tegra Tshabola and quarterback Mason Maggs.

Brown is the most notable name for the Hurricanes. The redshirt sophomore has been part of Miami’s four-man rotation at outside cornerback all season.

According to Pro Football Focus, Brown has allowed just 10 catches on 19 targets that have come his way this season for 157 yards and no touchdowns.

With Brown out, the Hurricanes will rely on the combination of Xavier Lucas, OJ Frederique and Ethan O’Connor to contain Ohio State’s one-two wide receiver punch of Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate, a duo that entered the Cotton Bowl with a combined 128 catches for 1,924 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Tshabola is the primary absence for the Buckeyes. He is Ohio State’s starting right guard but left the second half of the Buckeyes’ 13-10 loss to Indiana in the Big Ten Championship Game with injury and didn’t return.

With Tshabola sidelined, redshirt freshman Gabe Van Sickle is expected to make his first career start, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, and will rotate with redshirt sophomore Joshua Padilla.
