The University of Miami women’s basketball team bounced back from its two-game losing streak, defeating Georgia State 99-46 at the Watsco Center on Sunday afternoon.

Four Hurricanes hit double figures, led by Vittoria Blasigh, who scored 18 points in 20 minutes off the bench.

Ra Shaya Kyle added 16 points and 17 rebounds, her sixth double-double of the season. Amarachi Kimpson chipped in 13 points and Gal Raviv had 10 points and nine assists.

Miami outscored Georgia State 36-8 in the paint and outrebounded the Panthers 58-15.

UM coach Tricia Cullop was pleased to see improvement in three-point shooting after the Canes went 2-of-18 from beyond the arc in a loss to 17th ranked Kentucky last week. Against Georgia State, Miami shot 14-of-25 from three-point range.

“It was nice to see our three-point shooters knocking down shots,” she said.

Blasigh made six threes. Kimpson and Raviv made two apiece.

The Hurricanes (6-3) will need to score from outside in a tough ACC opener Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. against North Carolina State, which made the Sweet 16 last season and finished the year ranked No. 9.

Like most teams, the Wolfpack had a lot of changes to its roster, including the addition of junior forward Khamil Pierre, who transferred from Vanderbilt. She is averaging 14.3 points and 13.6 rebounds this season. Pierre had 19 points and 20 rebounds in an overtime loss ninth-ranked Oklahoma and grabbed 21 rebounds against Green Bay.

“Pierre is capable of getting 20 points and 20 rebounds if you don’t keep her in check,” Cullop said.

Miami has played three ranked teams so far this season, losing by three to 19th ranked Iowa and by three to No. 24 Oklahoma State.

“I think we are much better prepared for our ACC opener than we were last year,” Cullop said. “We have played a much more difficult schedule and those were good tests to get us ready for what’s to come.”
