Ra Shaya Kyle leads UM women’s basketball team to 112-62 exhibition win over Lynn

The University of Miami basketball season tips off Nov. 3, and Hurricanes’ women’s coach Tricia Cullop got a preview of her new-look team in a 112-62 exhibition win against Lynn University on Saturday.

Center Ra Shaya Kyle, a 6-6 graduate transfer from University of Florida, led Miami with 26 points. Four other Hurricanes hit double figures: UNLV transfer Amarachi Kimpson (15), freshman Soma Okolo (12), sophomore Ahnay Adams (11), and University of South Florida transfer Vittoria Blasigh (10).

The Canes played tenacious defense with 22 steals and a 46-30 rebounding edge.

Freshman Meredith Tippner led UM with seven steals, followed by Quinnipiac transfer Gal Raviv with five. The Hurricanes open their season on Nov. 3 with a 5 p.m. home game against Hofstra at the Watsco Center. The men’s season opener against Jacksonville follows at 8 p.m.
