Miami Hurricanes land edge rushers who had 24.5 sacks the past two seasons

The Miami Hurricanes landed their second Class of 2026 commitment of the weekend on Sunday, snagging an edge rusher who had 24.5 sacks over the past two seasons.

Venice High’s Asharri Charles, a four-star prospect who visited UM this weekend, picked Miami over offers from FSU, Florida, Missouri, Kentucky, Louisville and others.

Charles, who’s 6-2 and 230 pounds, is rated by 247 Sports the No. 15 edge player and No. 147 overall Class of 2026 prospect. On3.com ranks him the 25th best edge player and 194th best prospect.

Charles had 208 tackles and 24.5 sacks over the past two seasons.

247 Sports’ Andrew Ivins scouting report on Charles: “Densely-built edge defender that has displayed the ability to win with both speed and power. Believed to be under 6-foot-2, but is blessed with larger features (34-inch arms, 10.5 inch hands) and is the type of rusher that isn’t afraid to get some grass stains on the jersey as he attacks with whatever-it-takes energy.

“Has operated primarily out of a three-point stance in an even front, but also been stood up in certain situations. Violent hands accompany adequate snap anticipation. Isn’t a classic run stuffer per say, but can certainly hold the corner with his leg drive and sneak under blockers to fill gaps.”

UM also is believed to be in prime position to add receiver Tyran Evans, who attends Hough High in Cornelius, North Carolina. He raved about his visit to UM’s campus last week and de-committed from the Tennessee Volunteers less than 72 hours later, and then returned to UM’s campus for another visit this weekend.

Evans, who also visited Kentucky and North Carolina State, caught 36 passes for 980 yards (27 yards per catch) and 14 touchdowns. On3.com slots the 6-3 Evans as the 82nd best receiver and 540th best player overall in the 2026 class. 247 Sports rates him 107th among all receivers.

On Saturday, three-star Orlando Edgewater linebacker Justin Edwards flipped from Miami to Rutgers.

UM also is firmly in the mix for its top tight end target, UM’s top target is Visalia (California) Redwood’s Israel Briggs, who is rated by 247 as the nation’s No. 6 tight end and No. 70 prospect overall for 2026. He visited UM for the third time last weekend and plans to choose between UM and LSU.

The Canes hosted several 2026 recruits this weekend before an extensive dead period begins.

UM’s 2026 class, which now has 15 non-binding commitments, is rated ninth by On.3com and eighth by 247 Sports.
