UM’s strength coach leaves, citing personal reasons. Another coach also departed recently
Aaron Feld, the Hurricanes’ strength and conditioning coach for the past three seasons, left the program on Saturday, citing personal reasons.
“Thank you to the University of Miami and the Hurricane football program for a great run!” Feld wrote on Instagram. “I have nothing but love and respect for this football tram. This was a tough decision to have to make, but ultimately the choice was clear. At the end of the day, my wife and kids deserve more from me than my circumstances allowed, so the only course of action was to change my circumstances. Failing as a husband and a father will never be an option.”
Feld, who was easily recognized on UM’s sideline because of his handlebar mustache, added: “Developing a world-class performance team at The U will always be a highlight of my career, and I am leaving the ‘Canes football program in extremely capable hands. I have no doubt they will continue to lead the profession and have great success.
“To the players: I love you guys. Serving you every day has made me a better husband, father and coach. For that, I will never be able to thank you enough. Remember, no individual is more important than the team. Stick together and finish what you started.”
Feld worked with Mario Cristobal at Oregon for four years, then accompanied Cristobal to UM three years ago.
No replacement was named. Former UM assistant strength coach Jeff Eaton, who also accompanied Cristobal and Feld from Oregon to UM in January 2022, left Miami last month to take the associate director of strength and conditioning job at Virginia Tech.
“Jeff Eaton is my right hand,” Feld is quoted as saying in Eaton’s UM biography. But he’s no longer an option unless he returns to UM a month after joining the Hokies.
UM has three assistant strength and conditioning coaches who have credentials to be considered for the head job: Victor Ishmael (who has spent 20 years at UM), Rodney Prince (joined UM in 2022 after serving as assistant strength coach for six seasons at Georgia) and Ervin Young (joined UM in February 2022 after two years on Missouri’s strength staff).
UM also recently hired Nick Tulluch as an assistant strength and conditioning coach.
