Canes book visits with two veteran wide receivers. And three portal visitors Tuesday
The Miami Hurricanes, eager to add wide receivers in the weeks ahead, will get their chance to make their case, in person, to one of the top receivers in the transfer portal.
Syracuse’s Trebor Pena has booked a visit with Miami, On3.com reported Tuesday. He’s also planning to visit UCLA after visiting Penn State last week.
But on3.com reports that “sources continue to tell On3 that the Syracuse transfer is a Penn State lean.”
Pena had 84 catches, 941 yards and nine touchdowns last season.
Meanwhile, per on3.com, UM also has booked a visit with All-American kick return/BYU receiver Keelan Marion. He’s visiting Arizona State on Tuesday and then plans to visit UM, SMU, Tennessee and Kentucky and possibly Colorado.
Marion played his first two years at Connecticut and his last two at BYU, where he blossomed into an All-American kick returner. He had 24 catches for 346 yards last season and led the Big 12 by averaging 26.2 yards on 18 kickoff returns, including two touchdowns.
The Canes also are pursuing San Jose State’s TreyShun Hurry, who had 28 receptions for 482 yards last season. But Louisville is “trending” to land him, on3.com reported.
Meanwhile, UM on Tuesday is scheduled to host three portal visitors — Boise State defensive tackle Braxton Fely, North Dakota State running back CharMar Brown and Kansas State defensive back Noah King.
Brown — who won the Jerry Rice Award last season, which is given to the top FCS freshman — ran for 1,181 yards (4.8 per carry) and 15 touchdowns last season.
Fely had 25 tackles and 5.5 sacks last season and was named All Mountain West.
King, a four-star Class of 2025 recruit, is exploring his options after just one semester at Kansas State.
