UM’s Piotr Lomacki advances to USTA/ITA tennis regionals
University of Miami freshman Piotr Lomacki won his first-round match and highlighted the second day for the Hurricanes at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championships at Athens, Georgia,
Lomacki entered the day as the No. 9-16 seed and faced Inaki Espindola from UCF. Espindola started strong and beat Lomacki in the first, Lomacki then came back with a vengeance in the second and third to finish the match, winning, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. He will face Lasse Muscheites from UNF on Saturday at 11 a.m.
In other singles action, freshman teammate Christian Langmo lost in straight tiebreaks to Sam Pritchard from Kennesaw State, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-3). Fellow freshman Andrew Harrington lost to Florida’s Maxx Lipman, 7-5, 7-5. Seniors Henrique Tsukamoto lost to No. 3 seed Roberto Cid from USF 6-2, 6-3, and Wilfredo Gonzalez lost to Georgia’s Peter Bertran 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles action, UM lost all three matches: Arnav Mohanty/Arsav Mohanty of Mercer defeated Alexander Fahnehjelm/Andrew Harrington 8-4; Diego Hidalgo/Gordon Watson of Florida defeated Christian Langmo/Bernard Tefel 8-3; and Paul Oosterbaan/Ben Wagland of Georgia defeated Nile Clark/Henrique Tsukamoto 8-5.
