Miami flips another sack man. Canes get former Louisville ’24 commit to flip pledge
Miami has secured its 26th commitment of the 2024 recruiting class, and he’s a 6-5, 230-pound edge rusher who, according to the 247Sports recruiting site, has 19 sacks and 30 tackles for loss in 11 games this season.
Cole McConathy II, a three-star defensive end/rush linebacker, flipped his commitment from Louisville to the Hurricanes on Wednesday night. It just so happens that No. 9 Louisville (10th in the College Football Playoff rankings) is coming to town to face the Canes in a nationally televised noon game (ABC) on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium.
McConathy announced his change of heart on social media. He had been committed to Louisville since July.
The 247 site has him as the nation’s No. 74 edge and 44th best player from Alabama. He plays at Spanish Fort High School.
On3.com’s industry ranking has him as the 88th player at the edge rusher position, 47th-best player from Alabama and No. 1,096 in the nation, regardless of position.
After McConathy’s commitment, On3 ranks UM’s 2024 recruiting 14th nationally, and 247 has the Canes at No. 11.
McConathy is the sixth defensive lineman in UM’s class. The others are four-star Marquise Lightfoot, four-star Artavius Jones, four-star Booker Pickett, four-star Elias Rudolph and three-star Daylen Russell.
