Miami Hurricanes rise two spots in the AP Top 25 poll after third straight victory

Three games into the 2023 season, the Miami Hurricanes have moved up in the AP Top 25 poll after defeating the FCS’s Bethune-Cookman University 48-7 at Hard Rock Stadium on Thursday night.

After their latest dominating performance, the Hurricanes (3-0) rose two spots to No. 20 in the AP ranking on Sunday.

The USA Today LBM Coaches poll on Sunday ranked Miami No. 21, up two spots from last week’s No. 23.

Last Sunday was the first time Miami was ranked in the AP poll since after losing to Middle Tennessee on Sept. 24, 2022.

The Hurricanes started this season with a 38-3 win over Miami of Ohio, followed by a 48-33 win over then-No. 23 Texas A&M. They travel to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia for their first road game at 3:30 p.m. Saturday (ESPN2) against Temple (2-1).

The Owls (2-1), who many years ago played with Miami in the Big East Conference, now belong to the American Athletic Conference.

Temple opened the season with a 24-21 win at home over Akron, lost its second game 36-7 at Rutgers and defeated Norfolk State 41-9 on Saturday.

The top 25: No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Michigan, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Florida State, No. 5 Southern Cal, No. 6 Ohio State, No. 7 Penn State, No. 8 Washington, No. 9 Notre Dame, No. 10 Oregon, No. 11 Utah, No. 12 LSU, No. 13 Alabama, No. 14 Oregona state, No. 15 Ole Miss, No. 16 Oklahoma, No. 17 North Carolina, No. 18 Duke, No. 19 Colorado, No. 20 Miami, No. 21 Washington State, No. 22 UCLA, No. 23 Tennessee, No. 24 Iowa, No. 25 Florida.
