He’s 6-3, 280 pounds, plays 4 sports and is a 4-star DT. And he just committed to Miami
The Miami Hurricanes are back on a roll on the recruiting trail.
For the second time in as many days, a top-200 recruit orally committed to Miami on Friday. To kick off the weekend, Artavius Jones announced on Twitter he’ll be staying in state to play for the Hurricanes.
Miami beat out Florida State, UCF and Tennessee to land a commitment from four-star defensive lineman.
Jones is the No. 165 player in the Class of 2024, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, and the No. 25 player in Florida. The 6-foot-3, 280-pound senior plays both defensive tackle and some tight end for Blountstown, was a Class 1A championship in boys’ weightlifting last season and also plays boys’ basketball. He even earned a state medal in the shot put in track and field as a sophomore in 2021.
Jones’ commitment comes a day after the Hurricanes made their biggest splash of the 2024 recruiting cycle so far, locking up a commitment from five-star Chaminade-Madonna athlete Joshisa Trader on Thursday.
Miami is now up 18 players in its 2024 recruiting class and six blue-chip recruits, four of whom have committed to the Hurricanes in the last month.
Jones was a two-way force for the Tigers last year and helped Blountstown reach the Class 1R playoffs. On defense, he piled up 58 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 3 1/2 sacks, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries — one of which he returned for a touchdown — and even an interception. On offense, he had eight catches for 142 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for a touchdown.
With Jones in the fold, Miami’s 2024 class is up to No. 14 in the nation, only two spots behind Clemson and three behind the Seminoles, who currently sit atop the Atlantic Coast Conference.
