Miami gets commitment from speedy South Broward RB, who ran for 16.7 yards per carry
The Miami Hurricanes keep racking up the commitments and their latest is one of the most productive playmakers in South Florida.
Chris Wheatley-Humphrey, a three-star running back from South Broward, orally committed to Miami on Monday, announcing his commitment on Twitter after visiting multiple times in the last few months.
As a junior, Wheatley-Humphrey played in only seven games for the Bulldogs, and still ran for 1,166 yards and eight touchdowns on 70 carries, while adding six catches for 75 yards and another touchdown. He also lost one fumble and ran for a pair of two-point conversions.
The 6-foot, 175-pound tailback is the No. 59 running back in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings for the Class of 2024, and the No. 104 player in Florida.
Wheatley-Humphrey holds more than a dozen scholarship offers, but the hometown Hurricanes had been a clear favorite.
Wheatley-Humphrey joins four-star St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Chance Robinson and unranked safety Dylan Day from Southern Lab in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, as players to commit to Miami since Friday. The Hurricanes also landed a commitment from three-star quarterback Judd Anderson from Jones County in Gray, Georgia, on April 7. Wheatley-Humphrey and Robinson are the only in-state players in the Hurricanes’ class so far.
Speed is the calling card for Wheatley-Humphrey, who has also played some strong safety in his career. He ran for 16.7 yards per carry as a junior at South Broward and put together four 200-yard games in wins against Piper, Hallandale, Dr. Krop and Hollywood Hills to help the Bulldogs reach the Class 3M playoffs.
Miami only had one player committed to its 2024 recruiting class before this month — three-star kicker Abram Murray from Byrd in Shreveport, Louisiana — and now is up to five with Wheatley-Humphrey in the fold as the Hurricanes’ third addition in four days.
Players can sign national letters of intent in December, during the early signing period, or next year on national signing day.
