Former Miami Hurricanes star cornerback and assistant DeMarcus Van Dyke heading to FIU
He has been on the University of Miami sidelines for years, first as a star player and in recent years as an assistant coach and then defensive analyst, but DeMarcus Van Dyke is moving to another school in the neighborhood.
The Miami Herald confirmed through multiple sources Saturday that Van Dyke, 34, is leaving the Hurricanes to become the FIU cornerbacks coach, first reported by Eric Henry of @underdogdynasty.
Van Dyke, a friendly, upbeat former UM and Oakland Raiders cornerback, was known for his impressive speed as a player. He had also previously been Miami’s assistant director of recruiting and was promoted by former Miami head coach Manny Diaz to cornerbacks coach in January 2021. But he only stayed in that position for one season, as Cristobal came last year and hired secondary coach Jahmile Addae away from the national champion Georgia Bulldogs.
Van Dyke played at UM beginning in 2007 and spent six seasons in the NFL after being selected in the third round by Oakland. A Miami Gardens native and graduate of Monsignor Pace High, he spent 2017 as the cornerbacks coach at junior college ASA College in Miami.
