Miami, Alabama and more keep pushing for 5-star WR Brandon Inniss ahead of signing day
Brandon Inniss has been orally committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes since June, but it hasn’t stopped several of the nation’s most aggressive coaches, including Mario Cristobal, from continuing to recruit the five-star wide receiver.
He insists he’s not flipping from his commitment, though, and will sign with Ohio State once the early signing period begins Wednesday.
“It’s been a long, long recruiting process, but I’m glad it’s done,” Inniss said Tuesday after the Nat Moore Trophy ceremony at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. “I’m glad it’s over and I’m just getting ready to get to work up there and go win a national championship.”
Still, the Miami Hurricanes — and Alabama Crimson Tide — are trying to convince him to take a final official visit this weekend after Plantation American Heritage plays for a Class 2M championship Friday at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale.
Miami, Alabama and the Colorado Buffaloes, now coached by Deion Sanders, are the three schools still keeping in contact with Inniss and the 6-foot, 190-pound wideout said he’s “polite” when he gets those calls and text messages.
“I really just have conversations with them,” said Inniss, who’s the No. 31 overall player in the 247Sports composite rankings for the Class of 2023. “Polite is the correct word, but they ask me, Are you 100 percent locked in? I said, Yes. They’re still recruiting me. I think that’s a testament to their coaching style. They won’t give up to get the best guys in their area.”
Coach Mario Cristobal’s pitch to Inniss is similar to the one he uses on most blue-chip recruits from South Florida.
“They need me down here, they need me to stay down here, put on a show for not even my family, but everybody since I’ve been living down here,” Inniss said. “They need me to make an impact right away.”
The elite receiver isn’t swayed, though. He plans to stick with his commitment and sign a national letter of intent with the Buckeyes next week.
“I’m glad it’s over,” Inniss said. “I’m just getting ready to get to work up there and go win a national championship.”
