A major South Florida target delays official visit, but still visiting Miami this week
Damari Brown is the Miami Hurricanes’ best hope to end their frustrating recruiting drought at Plantation American Heritage, and he will be at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday to watch the Miami Hurricanes host the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders.
It’s just not going to be an official visit anymore.
Brown, a four-star cornerback in the 247Sports composite rankings for the Class of 2023, is pushing back his Miami official visit until November, lining it up for the Hurricanes’ home game against the rival Florida State Seminoles.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound defensive back also plans to officially visit Florida State in October when they host the Clemson Tigers, and said he hopes to make an oral commitment later in the fall after he takes those two in-state visits.
Brown, who’s the son of former Miami cornerback Selwyn Brown, also took official visits with Clemson and the Alabama Crimson Tide in June, and said he’s still hearing from Alabama.
The Hurricanes, however, are the favorite, according to 247’s Crystal Ball, and a second trip to Miami Gardens already in this young college football season is another good sign for the hometown team.
While Brown is the South Florida headliner, the Hurricanes will also once again have every local commit in attendance this weekend for their final nonconference game before they begin Atlantic Coast Conference play in October.
Miami expected visitors for MTSU
- Nathaniel Joseph, four-star WR, Edison (Miami commit)
- Tyler Williams, four-star WR, Lakeland
- Robby Washington, four-star ATH, Palmetto (Miami commit)
- Damari Brown, four-star CB, Plantation American Heritage
- Bobby Washington, three-star LB, Palmetto (Miami commit)
- Frankie Tinilau, three-star T, LaSalle (Miami commit)
The biggest name here is probably Williams, who will make his second trip to Miami-Dade County so far this season, 247 reported. The four-star wide receiver is set to make a commitment Tuesday and, at this point, the Hurricanes should be considered a real contender. Miami is battling the Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, South Carolina Gamecocks and Georgia Bulldogs, who lead in the Crystal Ball.
The 6-3, 180-pound senior is exactly the sort of bigger receiver the Hurricanes feel they’re missing right now and Miami is certainly trending in the right direction. Williams took official visits with each of those other six programs in June, but hasn’t visited any of them since.
