Miami Hurricanes drop in major polls for first time this season after road loss at Texas A&M
Three games into the 2022 season, the Miami Hurricanes have finally fallen in the AP Top 25 poll after facing Texas A&M in their first road game.
The Hurricanes played strong defense, but fumbled away a punt return that eventually turned into a Texas A&M touchdown, then could only score on three field goals late Saturday at Kyle Field in a 17-9 loss at College Station, Texas.
The result: UM fell 12 spots from No. 13 to No. 25 in the AP Top 25 poll.
The Canes dropped 12 spots from No. 13 to No. 25 in the USA Today AFCA Coaches Poll.
The Aggies, which began the season at No. 6 before dropping to 24 after losing to unranked Appalachian State on Sept. 10, rose one spot to No. 23.
Only Miami and No. 12 BYU lost among the AP Top 25, BYU to No. 25 Oregon.
The full AP top 10: No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Alabama, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 Clemson, No. 6 Oklahoma, No. 7 Southern Cal, No. 8 Kentucky, No. 9 Oklahoma State, No. 10 Arkansas.
No. 11 to 25: No. 11 Tennessee, No. 12 NC State, No. 13 Utah, No. 14 Penn State , No. 15 Oregon, No. 16 Ole Miss, No. 17 Baylor, No. 18 Washington, No. 19 BYU, No. 20 Florida, No. 21 Wake Forest, No. 22 Texas, No. 23 Texas A&M, No. 24 Pittsburgh, No. 25 Miami.
The Canes’ highest ranked opponent this regular season at this point is No. 5 Clemson. Miami (2-1) also faces No. 24 Pittsburgh at Hard Rock Stadium in the regular-season finale Nov. 26. The Florida State Seminoles and North Carolina Tar Heels are also receiving votes this week.
The Atlantic Coast Conference has five teams in the Top 25 this week: Clemson, NC State, Wake Forest, Pittsburgh and Miami.
