The Miami Hurricanes are still waiting for the first marquee gave of the Mario Cristobal era, but they’re continuing to use the first tastes of his new reign as a chance to recruit some top prospects from South Florida.

For the second straight week, Miami expects multiple uncommitted blue-chip recruits from Miami-Dade and Broward counties to flock to Hard Rock Stadium to watch the Hurricanes host the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Saturday.

Rueben Bain and Christopher Johnson, both four-star prospects in the Class of 2023, are planning to be in Miami Gardens this weekend.

Bain, an elite defensive lineman at Miami Central, is the top-ranked uncommitted prospect left in Miami-Dade County, according to the 247sports composite rankings. Johnson, a four-star running back at Dillard, is the Hurricanes’ top target at his position.

Miami will also have every local commit in attendance, as well as multiple other commits from outside the area coming to Dade County to see Cristobal’s Hurricanes for the first time.

Miami expected visitors for USM

  • Rueben Bain, 4-star DL, Miami Central
  • Nathaniel Joseph, 4-star WR, Edison (Miami commit)
  • Robert Stafford, 4-star ATH, Melbourne Eau Gallie (Miami commit)
  • Robby Washington, 4-star ATH, Palmetto (Miami commit)
  • Christopher Johnson, 4-star RB, Dillard
  • Connor Lew, 3-star IOL, Kennesaw (Ga.) Mountain (Miami commit)
  • Bobby Washington, 3-star LB, Palmetto (Miami commit)
  • Frankie Tinilau, 3-star T, LaSalle (Miami commit)
  • Antione Jackson, 4-star S, Dillard (Miami commit) (2024)

The biggest new additions from Week 1 are Stafford and Lew. Stafford, who projects as a cornerback at the next level, orally committed to the Hurricanes and June and last visited Miami in July for the Hurricanes’ barbecue in Coral Gables. Lew, an All-American lineman, committed to Miami last month and this will be his first trip back to Florida since his August commitment.

Three-star wide receiver Edwin Joseph, who landed a scholarship offer from the Hurricanes on Monday, won’t be able to attend because Chaminade-Madonna’s game against Northwestern was rescheduled for Saturday in Miami after it was postponed Thursday due to lightning.
