The first major college football polls that include 2022 in-game action were released Tuesday and the Miami Hurricanes are still in the thick of the rankings.

The Canes, who previously were ranked No. 16 in the AP Top 25 poll and No. 17 in the USA Today AFCA Coaches Poll, rose one spot to No. 15 in the AP poll and one spot to No. 16 in the coaches poll after defeating FCS member Bethune-Cookman 70-13 in the season opener.

The Alabama Crimson Tide remained at No. 1 in the AP, with the defending-champion Georgia Bulldogs rising from No. 3 to No. 2.

The full AP top 10: No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Ohio State, No. 4 Michigan, No. 5 Clemson, No. 6 Texas A&M, No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 8 Notre Dame, No. 9 Bayor, No. 10 Southern Cal.

No. 11 to 25: No. 11 Oklahoma State, No. 12 Florida (which leaped high after starting the season unranked but defeating former No. 7 Utah), No. 13 Utah, No. 14 Michigan State, No. 15 Miami, No. 16 Arkansas, No. 17 Pittsburgh, No. 18 North Carolina State, No. 19 Wisconsin, No. 20 Kentucky, No. 21 BYU, No. 22 Ole Miss, No. 23 Wake Forest, No. 24 Tennessee, No. 25 Houston.

UM garnered 679 points in the AP Poll, landing just above No. 16 Arkansas, which garnered 678. The Canes’ highest ranked opponent will be the No. 5 Clemson Tigers, who dropped one spot after a 41-10 victory over Georgia Tech and whom they’ll meet in Clemson, South Carolina, on Nov. 19.

Miami faces the AP No. 6 Texas A&M Aggies on Sept. 17 in College Station, Texas, and No. 17 Pittsburgh at Hard Rock Stadium in the regular-season finale Nov. 26.

Brett McMurphy of ActionNetwork.com had to have the Hurricanes ranked as high as any of the nation’s poll voters, as he put them at No. 4 this week, two spots higher than the first poll, behind his No. 1 Alabama, No. 2 Georgia and No. 3 Ohio State.

Miami, 7-5 last season, finished 2021 unranked in both the AP and coaches polls. They started at No. 14 in the AP preseason poll and at No. 16 among the coaches before starting 2-4.
