Miami makes late addition to 2022 recruiting class with 6-foot-4 JUCO wide receiver

The Miami Hurricanes have made a late addition to their Class of 2022 with a wide receiver from a junior college.

Colbie Young played as a freshman last year at JUCO Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and plans to enroll at Miami later this month after orally committing to the Hurricanes on Sunday.

Young’s commitment was first reported by CaneSport.com.

Young spent the weekend in Coral Gables for an official visit and was originally considered a prospect in the Class of 2023. He was, however, an academic qualifier coming out of high school, which makes him eligible to join Miami’s 2022 recruiting class.

Although he’s unranked in the 247Sports.com composite rankings, Young boasts impressive physical traits, and was also being recruited by the Pittsburgh Panthers and Virginia Tech Hokies. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound receiver caught 24 passes for 472 yards and nine touchdowns last year for Lackawanna.

Young graduated from high school in 2020 after a career as a two-sport star at Binghamton in New York, playing both football and basketball. He was lightly recruited, though, and headed to a junior college to continue his development. In Scranton, he caught the eyes of coaches all across the East Coast — he holds more than a dozen scholarship offers — and committed to the Hurricanes to join coach Mario Cristobal’s transition class.

He’ll have three seasons of eligibility remaining once he gets to Miami.

Young was one of eight recruits on campus this weekend for official visits, all from outside South Florida. The others are three-star quarterback Emory Williams, four-star wide receiver Raymond Cottrell, four-star tight end Riley Williams, three-star tackle Logan Howland four-star edge rusher Jayden Wayne, and four-star defensive linemen John Walker and Darron Reed.

The Hurricanes also have a chance to make an addition to their 2023 recruiting class later Sunday. Reid Mikeska, a three-star tight end from Texas, is also scheduled to make a commitment. He narrowed his choices down to Miami and the Oklahoma Sooners last week.
