A Miami Hurricane has been picked in every NFL Draft since 1975. Is the streak in jeopardy this year?

Miami didn’t have any players picked in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft on Thursday and it probably won’t happen Friday, either. It means it could be an agonizing wait Sunday as Charleston Rambo, Bubba Bolden and more all wait to hear their names called.

With no one taken Thursday, the Eye on the U podcast offers up a better-late-than-never preview of the 2022 Draft as David Wilson and Susan Miller Degnan, the Hurricanes beat writer for the Miami Herald, break down what the Draft may hold for the Hurricanes.

It starts with one big question: Will someone actually get drafted or will Miami’s 47-year streak end? Rambo and Bolden probably have the best chance, but it might take all the way until the seventh round for it to happen. We’re also keeping our eye on D’Eriq King and defensive lineman Jon Ford as candidates to maybe keep the Hurricanes’ streak alive.

As for King, his path to the Draft is the most interesting for Miami. After starring for the Houston Cougars and then battling injuries with the Hurricanes, King has NFL personnel fawning over his personality and leadership traits, even if no one is quite sure what to make of him at the next level. Is he a quarterback or wide receiver, or something else entirely? He probably won’t get picked, but it’ll be fascinating to follow King in the offseason, nonetheless.

Could anyone else find themself as a surprise selection? Running back Cam’Ron Harris, wide receiver Mike Harley, defensive lineman Deandre Johnson, safety Amari Carter, and offensive linemen Navaughn Donaldson and Jarrid Williams have also been putting in work to try to get on NFL teams radar since the end of last season.
