Podcast: Five questions we have (and might actually get answers to) for Miami’s spring game
Mario Cristobal’s first spring as coach of the Miami Hurricanes is nearly finished.
By all accounts, it seems to be going well. By the end of the weekend, it will be even more clear if it is.
Miami will hold its annual spring game at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, and the Eye on the U podcast — and Hurricanes fans everywhere — will get their best look yet at Cristobal’s squad.
David Wilson and Susan Miller Degnan, the Miami Herald’s Hurricanes beat writer, have plenty of questions they’re keeping their eyes on and some of them might even get answered, including five big ones.
Are the quarterbacks really as good as they look? Which wide receiver will step up in a real game setting? Who are the front-runners to start in the front seven? Will star underclassman James Williams line up anywhere other than safety? How good is this crowd going to be?
This will be Cristobal’s first chance to really interact with the Miami fan base and he should make the most of it. Even if the Hurricanes aren’t going to show off too much of their offensive or defensive playbooks, this scrimmage is a chance for Cristobal and Co. to showcase the talent on the roster, and prove he has Miami on the right track.
Spring games can sometimes be boring, but this one, with an almost all-new coaching staff and a fan base excited to see it, has a chance to be exciting and invigorating.
Unfortunately, there was no time to talk too much about baseball in this one, but it’s coming. The Hurricanes are up to No. 2 in the country and might just be the best team in South Florida.
