Miami lands four-star lineman Antonio Tripp after he attends first spring practice
Antonio Tripp was apparently impressed with the first practice of the Mario Cristobal era Monday.
A day after he spent the morning watching the Miami Hurricanes practice at Greentree Practice Fields, Tripp orally committed to Miami, becoming the first non-Floridian to join the Hurricanes’ Class of 2023.
The four-star interior lineman from McDonogh in Owings Mills, Maryland, announced his commitment on Twitter by saying he’s “171%” to Miami.
“The whole thing shut down,” Tripp wrote on Twitter.
Tripp is the No. 19 interior lineman in the country, according to the 247Sports.com composite rankings for the 2023 recruiting class, and the No. 328 prospect overall. The 6-foot-3, 300-pound junior primarily played tackle for the Eagles last year, but also has experience at guard and projects in the interior at the next level.
The offensive lineman claims more than a dozen scholarship offers, and the Hurricanes beat out a slew of Big Ten Conference teams, including the Michigan Wolverines and Penn State Nittany Lions.
Miami still has a long way to go to hang on to Tripp, though. Players cannot sign national letters of intent until December.
Still, it’s a big addition for the Hurricanes and more evidence of the recruiting muscle Cristobal can flex outside of Florida, particularly when it comes to targeting lineman. On national signing day last month, Cristobal rounded out Miami’s Class of 2022 by securing commitments from three-star defensive lineman Ahmad Moten, and three-star tackles Anez Cooper and Matthew McCoy.
Tripp, however, is the biggest offensive line recruit Cristobal and offensive line coach Alex Mirabal have landed since getting to Coral Gables. He also becomes the top-ranked prospect in Miami’s 2023 class, which also includes three-star Miami Northwestern wide receivers Andy Jean and Lamar Seymore.
The Hurricanes resume spring practice Wednesday after taking Tuesday off.
