Miami Hurricanes reportedly hiring Georgia’s Jahmile Addae as new DB coach
National champion Georgia recently poached Miami’s receivers coach and co-offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon as the Bulldogs’ new receivers coach.
Mario Cristobal’s Hurricanes are returning the favor on the other side of the ball.
The Canes are hiring Georgia defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae as their new DB coach, per the Athletic and ESPN, both citing sources. ESPN said the deal is for two years.
Known as a strong recruiter, Addae was ranked by 247Sports as the nation’s No. 2 recruiter for the Class of 2022. He replaces former UM DB coach Travaris Robinson, who was just hired by Alabama.
Addae, 37, is from Valrico, and came to Georgia in January 2021 after coaching DBs at West Virginia for two years. Addae was an all-conference safety when he played at West Virginia, and as a coach there in 2020 he led a Mountaineers passing defense that ranked first nationally in fewest passing yards allowed (159.6 per game). That year the Mountaineers were fourth in total defense and had 11 interceptions.
This past season at Georgia, the Bulldogs were 13th nationally in passing yards allowed (190.1 per game) and eighth nationally with 16 interceptions.
Addae also has been an assistant at Minnesota (DBs, special teams), Arizona (DBs), Cincinnati (RBs) and Michigan (GA, DBs Scout team).
