Another Northwestern Bull to Miami: Hurricanes land commitment from 4-star WR Andy Jean
Northwestern has always been good to the Miami Hurricanes and another Bull is planning to stay home and play at Miami.
Andy Jean, a three-star junior wide receiver from Northwestern, orally committed to the Hurricanes on Saturday, announcing his pledge first on Instagram and then later on Twitter. Jean also held early scholarship offers from the Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, Michigan Wolverines and Cincinnati Bearcats, among others.
In Coral Gables, he’ll get to reunite with several former high school teammates, including wide receiver Romello Brinson, tight end Kahlil Brantley and safety Kamren Kinchens.
While he’s a member of the Class of 2023 and can’t sign a national letter of intent until December, Jean helps give Miami a good starting point once the focus shifts to the 2023 recruiting class next week.
National Signing Day is Wednesday, when the Hurricanes hope to mostly put the final touches on their Class of 2022. The focus for coach Mario Cristobal and Co. will then turn to the 2023 recruiting cycle and Jean is one of South Florida’s best in the class.
As a junior, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound wideout broke out for the Bulls, catching 40 passes for 733 and eight touchdowns as their No. 2 receiver, earning first-team all-county honors from the Miami Herald. Led by its explosive offense, Northwestern reached the Class 6A semifinals. Jean, who’s the No. 53 wide receiver in the 247Sports.com composite rankings for the 2023 class, is poised to become the Bulls’ No. 1 target in 2022.
With Jean in the fold, the Hurricanes now hold two commitments in the 2023 cycle and both are productive wide receivers from traditional pipeline schools. Lamar Seymore, a three-star wide receiver from Miami Central and the younger brother of offensive lineman Laurence Seymore, orally committed to the Hurricanes back in 2020 and has not wavered from his pledge so far.
Both were on campus for Miami’s massive junior day event last weekend, when the Hurricanes hosted 10 five-star prospects and scores of other blue-chip recruits. Now both will get to establish themselves as leaders on the recruiting trail in Cristobal’s first full cycle as coach.
It’s a particularly good group of wide receivers in South Florida this year, too. Miami is also prioritizing five-star Plantation American Heritage wide receiver Brandon Inniss, five-star Gulliver Prep wide receiver Jalen Brown, four-star Stranahan wide receiver Hykeem Williams and four-star Edison wide receiver Nathaniel Joseph, who is currently committed to the Clemson Tigers.
