The COVID-19 pandemic has kept college coaches from meeting with prospects in person for more than a month, but the Miami Hurricanes managed to land an oral commitment Wednesday, anyway. Allan Haye is keeping Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna’s pipeline to Coral Gables going with his commitment to Miami.

The three-star defensive tackle announced his pledge on Twitter.

“I want to thank my coaches from coconut creek high school to Chaminade Madonna for molding me from a chubby kid with hoop dreams into a dawg on the football field,” Haye wrote. “Within the span of 1 year of football experience I’ve made some really tight connections and bonds with a lot of coaches from a lot of different schools.”

The No. 43 defensive tackle in the 247Sports.com composite rankings for the Class of 2021, Haye claimed more than a dozen offers after an impressive junior season for Chaminade-Madonna. The 6-foot-1, 296-pound defensive lineman recorded 68 tackles, eight tackles for loss and six sacks for the Lions on the way to a Class 3A championship. The Hurricanes offered Haye a scholarship in January and quickly became the front-runner in Haye’s recruitment. He attended a junior day at Miami later in January and finally announced his commitment Wednesday after a courtship spanning more than three months.

Before he was a breakout star for Chaminade-Madonna in 2019, Haye was an under-the-radar rising talent at Coconut Creek as a sophomore in 2018. He had primarily played basketball, so his blend of size and athleticism made him a terror for opposing offensive lines. Last year with the Lions, Haye put it all together on the way to a state title.

Haye is the third Chaminade-Madonna player to commit to Miami in the 2021 recruiting cycle, joining four-star running back Thad Franklin and three-star kicker Andres Borregales. The Hurricanes also signed three Lions in the Class of 2018 — defensive lineman Cameron Williams, cornerback Te’Cory Couch and safety Keontra Smith — and still hold a commitment from Willie Moise in the Class of 2019, although the three-star defensive tackle still has not signed a national letter of intent.

Haye is the Hurricanes’ 11th commitment overall in the 2021 recruiting class and their second defensive lineman, joining four-star Pinecrest Palmetto defensive tackle Savion Collins. Miami currently has the No. 8 overall 2021 class in 247Sports composite rankings and the No. 3 class in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
