Podcast: Six things we’re excited to see from the Miami Hurricanes in spring practice

Spring practice is nearly here and it has a chance to be a fascinating month or so for the Miami Hurricanes.

Miami changed its offensive coordinator, wide receivers coach and offensive line coach this offseason. It hired Ed Reed to be the program’s chief of staff. It landed one of the most high-profile transfer quarterbacks on the market and lured an All-American defensive lineman to Coral Gables.

There’s too much to possibly sort through everything before the Hurricanes begin practice Monday at the Carol Soffer Indoor Practice Facility, but the Eye on the U podcast will try. Our solution? We play a game this week. David Wilson and Susan Miller Degnan, the Miami Herald’s Hurricanes beat writer, each choose the six questions they are most interested to see answered in the next six weeks. Topics covered are wide-ranging and include in-depth looks at offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee, quarterback D’Eriq King and, of course, Reed.

Yes, it’s a lot of offense talk, but what else is there do to with Miami? The Hurricanes could look totally different in 2020 than they did in 2019 and our first glimpse will come next week when Miami gets back on the field with its revamped scheme and highly productive quarterback.

We take some time to squeeze in a few other topics, though, including the Hurricanes’ linebackers and offensive line situations, the large group of freshmen already on campus and new kicker Jose Borregales, who transferred to Miami from the FIU Panthers after taunting the Hurricanes in FIU’s stunning upset win last year in Miami.

Spring is the season for hope in college football and the Hurricanes are overflowing with it as it gets ready for 15 practices in March and April. Somehow, coach Manny Diaz and Miami have gotten us excited all over again.
