Podcast: Let’s get ready for a (probably quiet) National Signing Day for the Hurricanes
National Signing Day isn’t what it used to be for the Miami Hurricanes — or pretty much anyone across the country.
Miami signed 18 high school players to its Class of 2020 in the early signing period last month and added three transfers earlier this month. There’s not much room for more in the Hurricanes’ 2020 class as we approach Signing Day on Wednesday.
This means this episode of the Eye on the U podcast isn’t your typical National Signing Day preview. There aren’t any major down-to-the-wire recruiting battles to monitor. There won’t be a final, massive official visit weekend in Coral Gables. There’s not much uncertainty of any kind. Instead, David Wilson and Susan Miller Degnan, the Miami Herald’s Hurricanes beat writer, use this opportunity to look at the recruiting class and the offseason as a whole for Miami. The Hurricanes have once again tricked us into being excited for the upcoming season after a good January.
We have hit on all the transfers before, though, and they will be announced as part of the class Wednesday. This week, we break down the unique addition of wide receiver Keyshawn Smith, who got out of a national letter of intent with the Washington State Cougars and wound up early enrolling at Miami at the last moment, and figure out what might be going on with defensive tackle Willie Moise, the only committed player not to sign with the Hurricanes last month. We also try to figure out what might next for Miami. It still feels like the Hurricanes need to find an offensive lineman somewhere, right?
Of course, there’s always other news to get to, too. Quarterback Jarren Williams and defensive lineman Scott Patchan are in the transfer portal, but it sure seems like quarterbacks N’Kosi Perry and Tate Martell are staying put for now. We wrap things up with some always-necessary quarterback talk before breaking down why the 2020 schedule seems more favorable than its 2019 counterpart.
