Podcast: Miami football power-struggle in the making? You decide. Door No. 1, 2 or 3?

The Miami Hurricanes are contemplating hiring a “chief of staff’’ to assist football coach Manny Diaz. Former Hurricanes great Alonzo Highsmith, reportedly on his way out as the Cleveland Browns vice president of personnel, is the high-profile, Canes-savvy man considered by many to be the prime contender for such a position.

Canes fans love the Highsmith idea. Diaz, likely not so much.

We’ll let you make the choice, knowing that none of us will have a say in the decision.

On the latest Eye on the U podcast, Susan Miller Degnan and David Wilson discuss their take on the issue.

Door No. 1: Hire Highsmith now, despite knowing that Diaz likely does not approve of the idea and wants the freedom to have another year to get the program in order.

Door No. 2: Make that hire next time there’s a new coach being sought, independent of who the coach wants. So, both positions will have new faces and be hired relatively close together.

Door No. 3: Have Diaz choose his own guy now.
