The University of Miami women’s tennis team was one of just two programs in the nation to have two players advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Singles Championship in Waco, Texas.
Junior Stephanie Wagner, ranked 11th and seeded No. 9-16, won a three-set match over No. 54 Saska Gavrilovska of Texas A&M 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Freshman Sinead Lohan, ranked 37th, defeated a senior ranked in the top 35 for the third day in a row, taking 13 of the final 15 games to defeat No. 32 Natalie Beazant of Rice 7-5, 6-1.
Lohan is one of just two freshmen in the quarterfinals, along with No. 13 Josie Kuhlman of Florida. The two will play each other at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Wagner’s match against No. 1 Robin Anderson of UCLA will precede them at 1 p.m.
