UM baseball team loses to Virginia; FIU falls to Western Kentucky

The ninth-ranked University of Miami baseball team staged a late rally but came up short in its series opener against Virginia, falling 5-4 on Friday at Charlottesville, Va.

Trailing by three in the seventh, UM (29-10, 14-5 ACC) got an RBI triple from Christopher Barr and a pinch-hit RBI single from Johnny Ruiz to get within one.

Virginia improved to 23-14, 8-11.

FIU baseball: A five-run seventh inning for Western Kentucky proved costly as host FIU (16-21, 7-9 Conference USA) dropped a 6-4 decision to the Hilltoppers (19-16, 8-8). Junior Zack Soria had two hits and scored two runs in the loss.
