Update on Day No. 3 from University of Miami fall camp, after what appeared to be bad news that awaited us as we walked onto the Greentree sideline to see what amounted to less than five minutes of viewing during our intitial access on Thursday -- and a subsequent 10 minutes or so of upstairs, balcony viewing over the practice field.
Starting weak-side linebacker Michael Pinckney, a 6-1, 228-pound All-American from Jacksonville, was on a rehab bike pedaling with only his right leg, while his left leg was motionless on the other pedal.
A UM spokesman said later Thursday that Pinckney being on the bike was “precautionary.’’
Don’t know if he’s injured or to what extent he’s hurting or just plain sore. We did not meet with coach Mark Richt today, just offensive coordinator Thomas Brown and O-line coach Stacy Searels.

At the end of practice, before the players left the field, the linebackers took turns on the tackling sleds. Pinckney, who was with the group, stood and watched and did not take part in the drill. He was not limping or favoring a leg as he walked off the field.
Friday we’ll speak to Richt and hopefully get an update.
Pinckney is an integral, dominating part of this defense. Last season he started 13 games and ended with 61 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and an interception.
On Wednesday, defensive coordinator Manny Diaz told us that he’s working with Mike Smith, Bradley Jennings, Darrion Owens and Jamie Gordinier at both middle and weak-side linebacker. Owens has been the expected backup to Pinckney.
Next to Pinckney on the other rehab bike was freshman offensive lineman Zalon’tae Hillery, who had his right foot in a boot and was pedaling with his left foot.
***Freshman linebacker Waynmon Steed has a brace over his left knee. He stretched with the team and then went over to the side to work on exercises with a trainer.
***Sophomore tight end Michael Irvin II, who missed half of practice on opening day Tuesday, was back at practice for the second day in a row.
***Freshman receiver Jeff Thomas and fellow freshman receiver DeeJay Dallas fielded punts today.
***The order of quarterbacks this morning in drills handing off to the running backs: redshirt junior Malik Rosier, redshirt sophomore Evan Shirreffs, freshman Cade Weldon, freshman N’Kosi Perry, redshirt junior Vincent Testaverde.
***Freshman running back Robert Burns is still at practice in a green, noncontact jersey.
The players were in shorts, shoulder pads and of course helmets today.
