FSU Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher: ‘I think the receivers stink’

FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said of his receivers: “No consistency. Too much flash. Make a play or two and then don’t make two plays. Ridiculous.”

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher began camp by praising players. On Friday night, he aimed his harshest criticism of preseason camp at the receiving corps.

“I think the receivers stink,” said Fisher, who didn’t single out a particular receiver. “I ain’t lying. They don’t get open. They ain’t catching the ball. Can’t count on them — right now. As a group.

“No consistency. Too much flash. Make a play or two and then don’t make two plays. Ridiculous.”

▪ Fisher was pleased with the defense overall, from the pass rush to the secondary.

“Excellent day by the defense,” Fisher said. “Defense has been playing better and better every week.”

▪ Junior tailback Mario Pender returned to the practice field after missing about a week because of a bruised quadriceps.

“I’m very pleased,” Fisher said. “He looked really good.”

▪ The team will hold its second preseason scrimmage on Saturday afternoon at Doak Campbell Stadium.
