On the eve of the Sun Bowl, Florida State fans received a post-Christmas present when two players announced their decision to return to the Seminoles next season, delaying their NFL dreams for a year.

In the case of Marvin Wilson, it came out of left field.

Well, in the sense that practically no FSU fan was expecting Wilson to choose to return to Tallahassee. That’s because Wilson, this year’s sack leader for the Noles, is projected as a first-round NFL draft pick according to ESPN.

Wilson and wide receiver Tamorrion Terry announced their return in a video on FSU’s official football Twitter account.

“My family and I have been Seminoles since the day I’ve committed,” Wilson said in the video. “The relationships that we have built here at Florida State, the bonds that we have created here will last a lifetime. I arrived on campus in December of 2017 and have learned so much, not only as a player but as a man.”

“I am thankful for [defensive line coach Odell Haggins’] commitment to perfection every day on and off the field. But my pursuit of perfection is not over yet. I’m still committed to Florida State, I’m committed to ([new head coach Mike] Norvell and I’m committed to turning this thing around. See you in 2020.”

Wilson, a junior defensive tackle, tallied five sacks, 8.5 tackles for a loss and 44 tackles in nine games this season. He won’t play in Tuesday’s Sun Bowl in El Paso due to a hand injury sustained in a practice.

Terry led FSU with 51 catches for 1,023 yards. He has eight receiving touchdowns this season.
