Florida State in danger of not signing a QB for a third consecutive recruiting class
Florida State’s 2020 recruiting class just took a hit.
Consensus four-star quarterback Jeff Sims of Jacksonville Sandalwood High announced via social media he’s decommitting from the Seminoles.
Sims committed to FSU last February. The 6-3, 205-pound senior is ranked the seventh-best dual-threat quarterback in the 2020 class.
FSU failed to sign a quartergback in either of the past two recruiting cycles. Instead, the Noles relied on the transfer portal to get three signal-callers to Tallahassee.
According to 247 Sports, Sims recently took a visit to Maryland. The Seminoles were listed as 100 percent on 247 Sports’ Crystal Ball projection to land Sims.
Sims is signing during December’s early signing period next Wednesday, according to his Twitter post.
New FSU coach Mike Norvell visited Sims earlier this week, and Sims was expected to take a visit to FSU this weekend, according to reports.
While Sims was the only quarterback pledge for the 2020 class, he’s not the only target for the Noles. Three-star Kade Renfro (Stephenville, Texas) took an official visit to Tallahassee last weekend and FSU offered USF commit Tate Rodemaker (Valdosta, Georgia) on Wednesday.
Both, though, are pro-style quarterbacks.
Only James Blackman and Louisville transfer Jordan Travis are quarterbacks who could return to FSU.
Sims is the fourth player to decommit from FSU in this year’s class, mostly coming after Willie Taggart was fired on Nov. 3.
FSU’s recruiting class ranks No. 25 nationally in the 247 Sports’ composite rankings with 13 commits.
