Panthers Finalizing Trade to Pair Brady Tkachuk With Brother Matthew Tkachuk
If the Florida Panthers weren't Stanley Cup favorites before the weekend, they certainly are now.
The team pulled off a seemingly major trade early on Sunday morning sending forward Mackie Samoskevich to the Seattle Kraken for the 25th overall pick this year and a second-round pick in 2027.
Then hours later, Florida is close to finalizing a trade that could rock the NHL in 2026. According to The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun, the Panthers are on the verge of acquiring star forward Brady Tkachuk to pair with his brother Matthew Tkachuk.
"Hearing that the Florida Panthers are getting close to acquiring Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators," LeBrun posted on X. "I believe Ottawa will get three first-round picks and a second-round pick in the deal if finalized. More to come."
LeBrun later reported the Panthers are sending the Senators the No. 9 and 25 overall picks this year, a 2029 first-round pick, and a 2030 second-round pick. Ottawa reportedly tried to pry Anton Lundell away from Florida, but the team refused to include him in the deal.
Brady, 26, is one of the top left wingers in the NHL. He totaled 2 goals and 59 points this year for an Ottawa team that lacked scoring punch outside of Tim Stutzle (34 goals, 83 points) and Drake Batherson (33 goals, 71 points).
Though he's not quite the scoring threat that Matthew is, Brady did post three straight 30-goal seasons from 2021-2023, and he posted back-to-back seasons with 70 or more points (83 in 2022, 74 in 2023).
Matthew has only been healthy for two of his four seasons with the Panthers, but in those years he played 79 or more games, Matthew posted a 40-goal, 109-point season in 2022 (Florida made the Stanely Cup Final that year) and a 26-goal, 88-point season in 2023 (they won the Cup that year).
The Panthers just may have the best offense in the NHL heading into next season. In addition to the Tkachuk brothers, the Panthers also Aleksander Barkov, Sam Bennett, Lundell, Sam Reinhart, Carter Verhaeghe, Brad Marchand, Aaron Ekblad, and Seth Jones.
