Angel Reese Makes WNBA History Again in Dream's Win Over Fever

The Atlanta Dream pulled off one of the biggest swings of the WNBA offseason when they acquired two-time All-Star Angel Reese from the Chicago Sky. In exchange, Atlanta sent two first-round picks in a bold move to go all-in for a title this season.

Atlanta entered the 2026 season fresh off a franchise-record 30-win season and a .682 winning percentage under head coach Karl Smesko. The only thing the team was missing was a physical interior force that can rebound on both ends and bring the intensity every contender needs. They got that with Reese, which became evident on Saturday against the Indiana Fever.

With just over four minutes left in the third quarter, Reese made more history. She crashed the offensive glass to grab a rebound and finished through contact in the paint. In doing so, she became the fastest player to reach 1,000 career rebounds, doing it in just 79 games. The previous record was held by Tina Charles, who took 89 games to do it.

By the end of the game, the Dream had walked out of State Farm Arena with a dominant 113-96 win, and Reese had finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, two steals, and a block in 31 minutes, shooting 7 of 14 from the floor.

Heading into Saturday, Atlanta sat 10-4, improving that mark after snapping Indiana’s four-game winning streak on Thursday night, including a 6-2 road record, sitting firmly atop the Eastern Conference.

This isn’t the first time Reese has made headlines in Atlanta, either. She only needed her first nine games in a Dream uniform to become the fastest player in franchise history to reach 100 points and 100 rebounds, and she’s been the league’s top rebounder ever since, averaging 12.2 rebounds per game.

Looking ahead, the Dream don’t have long to celebrate. The Toronto Tempo come to town on Monday, then Atlanta hits a brutal West Coast swing with back-to-back games against Golden State and at Seattle to close out the month.

But with the team riding a three-game win streak and Reese playing some of the best basketball of her career, there’s real momentum right now in The A.
