Giants' series finale vs. Braves postponed to Aug. 31 due to rain

Rain strikes again.

The Giants' series finale against the Atlanta Braves on Thursday evening at Truist Park has been postponed until Aug. 31 due to rain.

San Francisco originally had an off day on Aug. 31 before beginning a road trip against the Pittsburgh Pirates (Sept. 1-3) and New York Mets (Sept. 4-6). Due to the postponement, the Giants will play 23 consecutive games from Aug. 18 to Sept. 9.

The postponement denies the Giants (31-43) an opportunity to sweep a team for the first time this season.

San Francisco and Atlanta were forced to play a split doubleheader on Wednesday after Tuesday night's game was suspended due to rain entering the bottom of the second inning.

The Giants won Game 1 behind 6 1/3 shutout innings of long relief from Robbie Ray, then emerged victorious in Game 2 as rookie left-hander Carson Whisenhunt allowed two runs over five-plus innings in his season debut while running on about four hours of sleep.

Landen Roupp was originally slated to pitch on Thursday in the series finale, but he will instead pitch the series opener against the Miami Marlins on Friday. Trevor McDonald will pitch on Saturday, followed by Logan Webb on Sunday.
