Lake Mary's Teagan Jahns named Gatorade's Florida Girls Soccer Player of the Year

Teagan Jahns, a junior soccer player at Lake Mary High this past season who led the Rams to their second consecutive state championship in February, has been named the Gatorade Florida Girls Soccer Player of the Year.

“Super proud of her for, first and foremost, how she represents herself, but also the girls in the program and our program in general,” Lake Mary girls soccer coach Christian Eissele said. “Like with everything we do, we don’t do it alone and she’s had a lot of support from all of us, and she should be very proud because it is a remarkable achievement.”

It takes recognition from opposing coaches to gain enough votes to earn the honor of being named Miss Soccer and Jahns certainly had admiration from the opposition. It is an award given to those athletes who most exemplify excellence in sport, academics and community. Jahns, who has already committed to play at FAU, carries a 4.4 GPA

Jahns led Lake Mary to a 20-2-1 record, scoring 24 goals and had 11 assists. She anchored the backline on a team that had 17 shutouts. Jahns was also named the Florida Dairy Farmers Class 7A Player of the Year.

“I’m proud and I’m pretty excited. It’s definitely a big accomplishment, a big achievement,” Jahns said. “I was pretty surprised. It’s definitely a big award and only one player gets it in each state, so I’m honored to be that player for Florida.

“I was shocked and grateful for sure. My coach kind of surprised me with it so it’s exciting.”

Jahns joins company with Lake Mary football player Noah Grubbs, the quarterback who led the Rams to the 7A state title. Grubbs was named the Florida Dairy Farmers Mr. Football.

Said Oviedo coach Scott Waisanen: “Teagan is like having another coach on the field in how she sees and reads the game. Her decision-making on where to go with the ball and where to direct her teammates makes an impact. She's coachable and respected by her peers. Teagan is both amazingly fast, but also technical and creates space for herself with her pace as well as for her teammates with her ability to take on defenders and move the opponents players out of position."

A standout defender, Jahns can play most any position on the pitch. She has tremendous speed and uses here elite awareness for the game to always be in the right place, on both offense and defense.

“Certainly her speed (is key), but from start to finish, it’s her tenacity and grit to get things done,” Eissele said. “She impacts the game in a tremendous amount of ways, with the ball at her feet, with her movement, but also defensively and being physical. Nobody really wants to go against her.”

She also always seems to be in the right place at the right time.

“Defensively she reads passes and jumps on the ball,” Eissele said, “and, in possession, when we’re attacking, she certainly makes runs in the right timing and the right space to get the ball.”

She’s also a great leader and a huge reason why Lake Mary will be a favorite to contend for its third straight state crown in 2027. Jahns has a terrific personality and is loved by her teammates.

“She’s incredible. She’s selfless in every aspect of what she does on the field. She motivates and inspires people to work harder and be the best version of themselves every day, and she leads by example,” Eissele said. “Not only is she an incredible player, but she is also a great person, great teammate. She always goes above and beyond.

“She’s a great kid, bubbly, fun to be around, always energetic … I think that energy also trickles down to the rest of the players.”

Lake Mary girls soccer makes it a repeat, wins 7A state championship

There is no time off for the top local players in any sport. Jahns also plays club soccer for Seminole United, an organization for which Eissele is a director. The future looks bright for Jahns.

“I think the sky is the limit with her because she has the mentality and mindset to continually improve,” Eissele said. “I think she will just continue that trajectory and anything is possible with the way that she works and is diligent and disciplined, and because of how much she enjoys it.”

Now, of course, Jahns will likely have a bit more pressure on her to perform at the elite level that she has reached.

“Yeah, for sure. I feel like there are higher expectations that are set for me to perform,” Jahns said.
