Brewers Get Brandon Sproat Update After Injury Scare
It seems the Milwaukee Brewers have dodged a massive bullet with the health of Brandon Sproat.
Sproat left Wednesday night's start against the Cleveland Guardians with a trainer after just 3.2 innings. Fortunately, what could have been a concerning development for the Brewers' rotation seems to be just a minor, day-to-day situation.
The 25-year-old told the media after the game that he was dealing with a hamstring cramp throughout the fourth inning. He said that it bothered him most when his back leg would swing through in his delivery, and that while he tried to push through it, it continued to get worse and ultimately cut his night short during the long fourth inning.
A seemingly frustrated Sproat added that while it felt "dumb" to have no further diagnosis, it was the best-case scenario after consulting with team trainers. Both him and manager Pat Murphy were confident that the injury will not impact his next scheduled start in Cincinnati.

It was an interesting night on the mound for Sproat, who did not allow a baserunner through the first three frames but gave up two hits, two walks, and allowed a grand slam before his exit in the fourth inning. He faced just one more batter after the big home run, getting the second out of the inning on a pop up before he was checked on.
Whether or not the injury was what derailed his outing, there were some clear bright spots with the performance. He racked up six strikeouts and looked comfortable before the injury forced him out of the contest.

Before the game, Murphy spoke about Sproat's growth throughout the season, particularly after his last outing where he pitched in a tough ballpark in Las Vegas and limited the home-run-hitting A's to just one run over 6.0 innings.
"We think he's moving in the right direction," Murphy said. "We're excited to develop and keep going. He's shown signs of getting better."

While Milwaukee expects to get rehabbing starter Brandon Woodruff back soon, losing Sproat would have been a tough blow on a day when it was announced that fellow right-hander Quinn Preister would undergo season-ending thoracic outlet syndrome surgery. Sproat's place in the rotation may eventually become a question upon Woodruff's imminent return, but it likely won't be due to the hamstring.
