LeBron James Could Bring Former Cavaliers Teammate to Los Angeles: Report

Recent reports indicate that LeBron James is leaning toward a return to Los Angeles for his 24th NBA season.

James just finished up his eighth campaign with the Lakers, and is soon to hit unrestricted free agency. But if the all-time great NBA superstar and the LA franchise can come to an agreement, it appears he’ll be back in Purple and Gold for the 2026-27 season.

If James re-signs will the Lakers, he could bring one of his former Cleveland Cavaliers teammates along for the ride.

“I’m also hearing that one of his old teammates from Cleveland, Kevin Love, could likely be joining the Lakers, too,” NBA insider Marc J. Spears said on ESPN.

James and Love were teammates in Cleveland for four seasons from 2014-18, securing the Cavaliers first and only championship title together in 2016. This week, James, Love and several other members of the Cavaliers’ 2016 championship team traveled to London to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their title.

Love, 37, played his 2025-26 NBA season with the Utah Jazz. Through 37 games appearances, the five-time NBA All-Star averaged 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game off the bench.

Love just finished the final season of his current contract, making him an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
