Blue Jays Make George Springer Request Ahead of All-Star Game

George Springer is slashing .208/.303/.354 with six home runs and 16 RBIs across 211 plate appearances for the Toronto Blue Jays this season. The four-time All-Star helped carry Toronto to the World Series in 2025, when he hit .309 with 32 home runs, drove in 84 runs and posted a .959 OPS, earning a Silver Slugger and a seventh-place finish in American Legue MVP voting.

Now the Blue Jays are asking fans to send him back to the 2026 MLB All-Star Game in Philadelphia. Toronto is campaigning for Springer to start as the designated hitter, urging fans to vote up to 5 times per day. MLB's latest ballot update, which was released on Monday, has him second behind Houston's Yordan Alvarez.

Springer drew 323,112 votes through Monday's count, trailing Alvarez's 1,015,768. Six Blue Jays reached finalist positions: Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Ernie Clement lead at first and second base, while Springer, Alejandro Kirk, Kazuma Okamoto and Andres Gimenez sit second.

The 36-year-old has found a way to get on base even as the hits stay scarce. Over his last 10 games, Springer is batting .194 with a .356 on-base percentage, drawing nine walks against seven strikeouts. He homered Friday against the New York Yankees, walking three times.

Phase 1 of voting runs through Thursday, June 25, with the final round opening Monday, June 29. The 2026 edition of the Midsummer Classic is set for Tuesday, July 14, at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. If Springer keeps his spot for second, he reaches the final ballot with a chance to start for the AL.
