Blue Jays Make Ernie Clement Announcement Before Red Sox Game

Ernie Clement has been one of the few constants for the Toronto Blue Jays during an uneven first half. While injuries have forced Toronto to reshuffle its lineup repeatedly and several key hitters have battled prolonged slumps, the 30-year-old has quietly put together the best season of his career.

Through 71 games, Clement is hitting .304 with 84 hits, seven home runs, 28 RBIs and a .784 OPS. He leads the Blue Jays in hits and batting average while continuing to provide valuable defense across the infield.

Toronto enters its upcoming series against the Boston Red Sox at 34-38, third in the American League East. The Blue Jays have fallen short of preseason expectations, but Clement's emergence as one of the club's most reliable contributors has been a major reason they remain within distance of the American League East top spot.

On Monday, Clement's consistency was rewarded as he received recognition from fans across baseball.

MLB released its first American League All-Star ballot update, and the Blue Jays infielder led all AL second basemen with 904,702 votes. The total placed him ahead of several established stars at the position and puts him in strong position to earn the first All-Star selection of his career.

The Blue Jays celebrated the milestone on X, urging fans to keep voting for Clement and his teammates:

The support comes as little surprise to Blue Jays fans. Clement has been among the American League's most productive second basemen all season. Entering the week, he ranks first in doubles, fourth in batting average, and second in hits, while playing all but one game this season for a club that has desperately needed its best players healthy.

While Clement earns a well-deserved recognition, the Blue Jays will be looking to turn things around when they welcome the Red Sox on Tuesday. Toronto has lost two straight games and will look to bounce back before hitting the road on Friday.
